North Carolina Homebuyer Programs

We're committed to helping homebuyers achieve their homeownership goals. Through mortgage programs offered by the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency (NCHFA), eligible borrowers may have access to affordable financing options and down payment assistance designed to make buying a home more attainable. 

NC 1st Home Advantage Down Payment

For eligible first-time homebuyers and military veterans, the NC 1st Home Advantage Down Payment program offers additional assistance that may be used toward a down payment and closing costs.

Qualified borrowers may receive up to $15,000 in down payment assistance, helping make homeownership more attainable.

This program is designed to support buyers who may need additional assistance covering upfront home purchase expenses.

 

NC 1st Home Advantage Down Payment Requirements 

You may be eligible if: 

  • You are a first-time home buyer (you haven't owned a home as your principal residence in the past three years) or a military veteran or a buying in a targeted census tract 
  • You meet the income and sales price limits 
  • You are purchasing a home in North Carolina
  • You occupy the home as your principal residence within 60 days of closing
  • Your credit score is 640 or higher
  • You are a permanent legal resident of the United States

NC Home Advantage Mortgage™

The NC Home Advantage Mortgage program provides eligible borrowers with competitive mortgage financing and down payment assistance opportunities.

Qualified borrowers may receive down payment assistance equal to up to 3% of the loan amount, helping reduce upfront costs associated with purchasing a home.

The program is available to both first-time and repeat homebuyers who meet applicable program requirements, making it a flexible option for many North Carolina residents.

 

NC Home Advantage Mortgage™ Requirements

General eligibility requirements include: 

  • Must not exceed income limits
  • Homebuyer education may be required
  • Must plan to use the home as primary residence
