Parkersburg, W.Va. – Richard M. Adams, Executive Chairman, United Bank, has been accepted into the 2023 Laureate Class of the Washington Business Hall of Fame. Representing Greater Washington’s signature lifetime business achievement award, fewer than 200 prolific business and community leaders have received this designation since its founding in 1988. Laureates are selected for consistently demonstrating excellence and visionary leadership that results in a significant and lasting impact on the Greater Washington Region. Some past recipients of the honor include Mark D. Lerner, Principal – Lerner Enterprises and Principal Owner & Vice Chairman – Washington Nationals; Robert J. Stevens, Chairman & CEO – Lockheed Martin; Christopher J. Nassetta, President & CEO – Hilton; and J. Willard Marriott, Jr., Chairman & CEO – Marriott International.

Adams joins four other leaders as inductees into the Washington Business Hall of Fame this year:

• Thomas J. Baltimore, Jr., Chairman and CEO, Park Hotels & Resorts
• Terri McClements, Senior Partner and Former Mid-Atlantic Market Managing Partner, PwC (retired)
• Deryl McKissack, PE, President and CEO, McKissack & McKissack
• Kurt D. Newman, MD, President and CEO, Children's National Hospital (retired)

Adams and his fellow 2023 Laureates will be celebrated at the annual Hall of Fame gala, taking place on Tuesday, December 5, in Washington, D.C. The gala brings local students to the table alongside trailblazing Washington business leaders, giving these young people a uniquely powerful glimpse into what’s possible for their own future.

All proceeds from the Hall of Fame celebration support Junior Achievement of Greater Washington (JA), a non-profit organization whose mission is to prepare young people to succeed in a global economy, ensuring they have the tools to build thriving communities. JA’s century-long legacy of connecting what works in business with what works in education is fundamental to the mission of the Hall of Fame program: connecting the best in business to inspire the next in business.
