Common Types of Business Scams
Bank Imposter Scams
Fraudsters impersonate bank fraud or treasury departments and may spoof legitimate phone numbers or email addresses to make the contact appear authentic. They often claim urgent fraud activity and attempt to pressure you into sharing credentials or approving transactions.
Business Email Compromise
Scammers hijack or mimic the email of a trusted executive, vendor, or partner and request wire transfers, ACH payments, or changes to payment instructions.
Vendor Payment Change Scams
Scammers pose as vendors and request changes to ACH or wire instructions, redirecting payments to fraudulent accounts.
Phishing and Smishing
Decptive emails or text messages direct users to fake websites designed to steal login credentials or install malware.
Red Flags to Watch Out For
- Urgent requests for payments, login credentials, or security codes
- Changes to payment instructions without proper verification
- Email addresses or phone numbers that look "almost" correct
- Unexpected links or attachments
If something feels rushed or unusual—stop and verify. Scammers rely on urgency and fear. Taking a moment to verify can prevent significant financial loss.
