WINCHESTER, Va. – United Bank recently promoted Peter Warren to president of its Winchester Market. As market president, Warren will lead strategic efforts to drive commercial and retail production while ensuring the profitability and sustained growth of the market. Warren will also play a pivotal leadership role in managing public relations efforts in Winchester and growing the Bank’s reputation and name in the area by representing United Bank through active participation in civic affairs and professional organizations.
“United is a great company because the people genuinely care and have that hard work and teamwork mentality that really resonates with me as a former athlete,” said Warren. “The Shenandoah Valley is full of opportunities, and I am excited to grow our presence and continue forging strong relationships with our customers here. I have been fortunate to call Winchester my home for most of my life, so it is rewarding to be able to serve the local community that I grew up with.”
Comprised of eight United Bank branch locations, the Winchester Market covers Frederick, Clark, Shenandoah, and Warren counties, and the City of Winchester. As market president, Warren will continue to work from United’s Cameron Street branch.
Warren has 17 years of banking experience, beginning with Wells Fargo as a credit manager and licensed personal banker. He joined United Bank in 2012 as a financial advisor with United Brokerage Services, Inc., before making a move to the credit side of the business as a commercial credit analyst in the Bank’s Morgantown office. During this time, he was also chosen to join United Bank’s coveted four-year Leadership Development Program, which allowed him to expand his industry knowledge through interdepartmental committee work and additional executive exposure. In the following years, Warren was promoted to portfolio manager before assuming his most recent role as an assistant vice president and commercial banker in 2017.
Harry Smith, the former Winchester Market President, has retired after 10 years with United Bank. During his 48-year-long banking career, he has become an integral part of the local Virginia community through various leadership roles at Bank of Virginia, Dominion Bank of Northern Virginia, First Bank Virginia, and Union Bankshares, Corp.
“Pete exemplifies all the traits that we look for in a leader at United Bank. He has brought his expertise and care to every role he has held and every challenge he has faced, and there has never been an opportunity that he has turned down to push forward growth for our teams and communities,” said Smith. “I have no doubt Pete will thrive in his new role as market president, and I am fortunate to be able to retire with the knowledge that our Winchester Market is in good hands under his leadership.”
Warren received a B.A. in business management from Virginia Wesleyan University and is beginning his last year of banking school at the American Bankers Association Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Pennsylvania. A former college athlete, prior to joining the banking industry, Warren played professional basketball with the Washington Generals, a rival team of the Harlem Globetrotters.
As a longtime Winchester resident, Warren looks forward to continuing to serve his local community, both at work and in his personal time. He is on the board of the Grafton Integrated Health Network and is a founding member and sits on the board of the Clint Nichols Foundation. Warren also takes care to set aside time for his family. He coaches his sons’ youth soccer and basketball teams and enjoys family trips and outdoor activities. Warren and his wife, Ashley Warren, a local orthopedic physician assistant, try to lead by example to show their sons that it’s possible to work hard and succeed while still making time for loved ones.
